Your WordPress Ideas Needed
Running out of ideas or maybe ambition I have found it more and more difficult to post regularly here on WordPressMax. It has been well over two years now since first launching this site and I have learned quite a bit about WordPress since then. But now I seem to be running out of gas.
I started this site out of frustration when searching for answers to WordPress questions for another blog. The lack of simple explanations especially from a certain forum, that was supposed to offer WordPress help gave me the idea. Most of the answers I got took the basics for granted and glossed over the simple steps leading up to the final solution. So while they might have explained what to do I found that I needed to research several other steps or terms in order to get to the final solution. So as I learned how to use and customize WordPress I started posting, on a different blog, WordPress guides that most any newbie could use.
But now I am at the point that I am starting to become what I once was frustrated with; someone who doesn’t take the time to answer the questions the newbies have. Whether I am just getting lazy or loosing interest I don’t know. I have had a lot of other things taking up my time and that too has kept me from posting regularly. Probably a combination of all of the above. I am even contemplating selling the site but really have no idea of it’s worth.
So this is where you come in. If you have questions that would be a possible post I welcome them in the comment section below. But PLEASE remember that this site is for the geek impaired so keep them somewhat simple. And please do not ask about theme specific tweaks, I will not post a guide for your particular theme. If I do use your question I will link to your WordPress site in the post, so leave a link to it.
Thanks,
Jeff

Well, as a WordPress user, I’d be interested to:
1) Know how to do more with my footer: I notice lately that a lot of blogs put their latest comments there, short contact forms etc.
2) Style the WP default gallery better
3)A few basic SEO tips: there are a ton of blog about SEO but I found most of them are way too much into SEO. They forget those who primary blog for fun or for pleasure and not for money. Therfore, I tend to ignore their lessons… yet, it will be nice to know how to tweak my blog to make a bit more SEO oriented.
4) I love comments hacks! Must be a weird addiction of mine…
5) Archives: what would be the best way to manage large archives…? Any tips on that? I’m currently using a plugin but I’m open to new ideas.
6) There are a lot of plugins around that newbies like me could get rid of if only they know how to code it. For example, I used to have a plugin inserting my RSS feed in my blog, before I learned to do it myself.
7) Finally, I’d love to know more about managing my WP tables in MySQL. It may not be a wise thing to do for a geek-impaired but lately, I got interested in that.
Hope this helps!

nice post, i think that wordpress is full of every theme and category of life, you just have to go out and say something, the ideas will come, you can’t worry about it being perfect every time.

Jeff- I seriously don’t think you should sell your blog! I love reading your stuff. I believe that you need to have a “call to action” for people reading your blog to buy a product of yours (or maybe an affiliate product you thin highly of). Maybe you can make a tutorial product that you can sell and that can be what you offer your readers to buy- that way your writing will be more lucrative.
,
You offer excellent advice. To make it more lucrative- if I were you I would write a guide by repurposing many of the posts that you already have and then sell it. If I were you I would also seek out joint ventures with other bloggers to become your affiliate so you can leverage other people’s traffic too.
You can monetize the posts that you already have by going back and thinking about good products that you recommend that complement the content of that post. I believe your frustration lies in the fact that you are not monetizing all of your efforts. And that absolutely can be done by just tweaking what you already have. your affiliate products are on the sidebar and most people don’t even look at the sidebar. so if you could put more affiliate links within the content area of your posts you will be able to monetize more. Tell people what you want them to do and when they are grateful for your help they will end up doing it.
As for questions- I have plenty of them- LOL. ( Right now I am researching wordpress security so I’m trying to implement lost of things.)
But I just really wanted to let you know what I thought.

Maybe you should start having some kind of contest or something? Or maybe try recruiting some “moderators” to help post new topics and stuff. These are just a few ideas..

I kinda went through this same phase on my blog but things are picking up now. These ideas might not be what you’re looking for but here goes.
How’s about writing on the following
1. How to add nofollow to tags appearing after the post?
2. In your post Customize WordPress Header Navigation Bar, which has been immensely helpful by the way, there was no mention of how to add custom anchor text to links created with the include php tag.
3. You could write about How to secure WordPress from hackers. I’m working on that myself right now using methods that have worked on my shared hosting with Hostgator.
A big help would be subscribing to rss feeds such as wphacks.com, catswhocaode.com, wpshout.com and so many wordpress hacks/tweak blogs. You could get loads of ideas from them.
Best of luck.

Hey Jeff,
I think you should keep your blog, unless you get some really good deal, and you wanna focus on something else. You have some great informative tips and ideas in your posts, which I totally enjoy. However, if you are having writer’s block, may be you should take some time off.
Anyway below are some of my suggestions:
— How to install wordpress on local host?
— How to change permalink, for example having .php as an extension on your posts (it took me quite a toll to figure this thing out in the beginning) I would definitely appreciate a small post on this though…
—- How to make your blog more secure and fight spammers?
—- Lists and review more wordpress themes
—- lists more new menus list…
—- talk about robots.txt or .htaccess
Hope these are helpful!

Jeff,
I don’t think you need to offer WP advice or tips everytime. Perhaps you can discuss ways to make money with WP, or maybe how to find blogging partners. Something related, yet a little outside the box.

It’s really hard to focus on a particular topic. Maybe, you could start searching for topics discussed in WP related forums. Always bear in mind that newbie can give you the most interesting discussion when it comes to WP. Simply, because they are not so familiar anything related to WP.

It sounds like you have come full circle.
I understand from experience, you want to help everyone.
It is hard to give away free help and yet make a living?
But when you focus on making a living you have less time or ambition to help the needy. Making money would help your desire to post more, but then again most of us internet junkies have A.D.D. and we get bored just after we make a good site and want something new anyway. (if you have attention deficit sell it now while you still can) find a new project and do it again.
Anyway best of luck to you, and tanks for your help in the past

if you need more topics to blog on, how about some materials on using WP specifically to build web sites as opposed to blog sites. How to position content on static pages (templates or css), how to create multiple column static pages, tweaking style sheets, modifying page templates, etc.
