RSS Feed Email Notification on Your WordPress Blog
Lets face it some people don’t have the time or just can’t remember to check their RSS readers for your latest blog post. But what if you can send the latest post to them and do it without the need for an autoresponder?
If you have seen my WordPress guide and video on my other Work At Home Business Blog about setting up your feed at FeedBurner I showed you how to “burn” your feed and add it into several areas on your blog. You can see that post here: Setup FeedBurner And Widgets On WordPress Blog. This post will show you how to offer RSS feed updates via email and place the subscription box on your blogs sidebar.
First you need to have a free account on FeedBurner.com. Sign up for, or login to your FeedBurner account and click My Feeds on the top left shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Next click on the feed you want to offer feed email update for as shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Next click the Publicize tab as shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Next click the Email Subscription link on the left as shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Select the correct language from the drop-down box as shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Copy all of the provided code from the box (right click in the box and “select all’ then “copy” or keyboard Ctrl A ) and go to your WordPress dashboard.
Once in the WordPress dashboard click Presentation then Widgets. If you don’t have any text widgets in the lower Available widgets section scroll down and click the drop-down box to add a few more text widgets and click save.
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Drag a new text widget from the lower available widgets area into the upper sidebar area:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Click the blue text box on the new text widget to open it and give it a title and paste the code from FeedBurner into the lower area as shown below:
———————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————————————–
Click the X on the top right of the text widget and then click save changes on the top right of the screen. Now you should have an RSS email subscription box on the sidebar similar to the one here on mine. Hey be sure to sign up for mine to keep your WordPress blog up to date!

Hi – I followed your instructions using Feedburner, but when I got to the end of the process, I just have the words “enter your email address:”
There’s no actual box where the email address could be entered, and I’m a bit floored, since I just copied and pasted the code. I’d appreciate some help – http://movingout.wordpress.com. I’ve left it up as is for now so you can see what a mess I’ve made

Peti this site’s guides are mostly for self-hosted WordPress blogs and yours is hosted on WordPress.com. I don’t think they allow any scripts like this on their blogs. That is probably why the box to enter an email address is disabled.

I see . . . well, it helped me get the link for email subscriptions up anyways. Maybe I’ll eventually learn enough coding (read: or any coding) to use your site! Didn’t realize there was such a community of self-hosters using WordPress out there, so cool beans.

Hello; I have been having a devil of a time with email notifications. First, I tried setting it up with feedburner. I couldn’t get it to let me copy the html code, so I opted for copying the code for adding a link character by character. There is less code for adding a link than there is for adding the form. I installed this in a widget just fine, but every time i tried to subscribe to my feed or have someone else do it to make sure it was working I would get an error message about this feed not being authorized for subscriptions. I checked several times, and I couldn’t see what I was doing wrong. So, I removed the feedburner code and tried adding code from a site called shootthebreeze.net I added their code, and everything seamed ok until I went to my blog site to test it and found there is no place for the potential subscriber to enter their email address. If you could send me the html code in an attachment I could try going back to that step first. I’ll appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks, Max

Max I can’t send you the right code because each email subscription code is specific to the FeedBurner account. You need to turn on email subscriptions in your FeedBurner account.
You might have another issue… your problem might be because your blog is not self-hosted and on WordPress.com. They don’t allow AdSense ads and other forms of marketing and this may be the case. Sorry but I don’t know that much about blogs on WordPress.com, this site is about self-hosted WordPress blogs.

Drive-By comments will be deleted! Like "Thanks for sharing", "Nice post", or any other text that doesn't contribute to the discussion. If you ask a very specific question about your particular WordPress theme, it will probably be deleted. I can fix your WordPress site but for a price. If you ask a question like "Why don't my blog work right", it will be deleted. If you ask a question about your WordPress site without a leaving a link to it, it will be deleted. The point is to ask questions and or comment on the the actual content of the post, and to please use some common sense. All comments are moderated and will appear when approved. Thank you.
