Install WordPress With Simple Scripts
Installing WordPress can be a very daunting task for those with limited knowledge. Especially if you try to read the official guide. Uploading the files in the proper location and then setting up a database and getting the correct information in the configuration file. So much for the famous 5 minute install huh? If you have picked the correct hosting account then you might be lucky enough to be able to install WordPress with a few clicks of your mouse.
What used to be a multiple step process is now down to a few mouse clicks. Most of the better hosting accounts now offer automatic installation of most of the popular website scripts right from the hosting account control panel. First there was Fantastico and now there is Simple Scripts. The last time I used an installation script to install WordPress both were available to choose from and having used both I noticed a slight difference in the time it took with Simple Scripts being a bit faster. By faster I mean Simple Scripts took like 30 seconds!
You should be able to easily verify if Simple Scripts or Fantastico is available in the hosts control panel. As I said most decent hosting accounts offer it right on the main menu page as shown below.

Just click the Simple Scripts icon to get started. The next page shows you all of the available scripts to choose from.

In this case WordPress was at the top of the list, click the WordPress icon and next you will get a short overview of the script and then an icon on the bottom to Install Now.

The next screen gives you several options to choose the version you want to install, I recommend the latest stable version.

Next fill in the site name and choose whether or not to let the script generate an administration login which is a username and password and create a database. I suggest to uncheck the Generate me an Administrator Login box and make your own username and password. Keep the Automatically create a new database option checked unless you know how to or already have a database setup to use.

Below is the options page with the Generate me an Administrator Login box not checked. You will also need to check the bottom two legal agreement boxes to continue.

Once you have the options filled in and checked click the Complete icon and your WordPress blog will be done in a matter of seconds, Or at least it was on this Bluehost account.
The next few screens will go by pretty fast depending on your connection speed, in this case they went by so fast I had no time to make a screen capture of them. When it’s done you will be presented with a completion page with the login details.

Now you will have the latest version of WordPress installed, but guess what? You will still need to use and FTP client to install your theme and all your plugins and then learn how to optimize it. In fact the easy part is installing WordPress. The hard, time consuming part is figuring out how to optimize and correctly use your WordPress blog. If you need help check out my WordPress Optimization service. I also highly recommend Bluehost Hosting for your WordPress site.

I am having a trrible time trying to migrate my blogger blog to my own hosted wordpress domain. I just stumbled on your site and can already see the insights here will help me get it all together. I may just post some very noobish questions that I hope you can answer with patience, because I have very little knowledge of wordpress.
At any rate, just wanted to say I love your site. I’m off to look around now and see if you have any posts on how to migrate a blog from blogger. Oh, and I’ve subscribed in my reader.

agree with you there, 5 minute install my ass. especially if you don’t know what an FTP is.
And I think Fantastico has been discontinued on alot of hosts aswell

Not sure about Fantastico being discontinued, but there’s a wonderful FTP add on for firefox called filezilla. I’ve been using it now for a few months and even though I had no idea what FTP was it is very easy to figure out. Alternately there is something called smart FTP but I’m not sure if that’s free or a purchase.

Looks like an easy script to me! Thanks for sharing

It might not have been discontinued altogether, but on both Freehostia and 000webhost (the free hosts I use, I know, im cheap), I haven’t been able to install WP using fantastico.

This article has made blogging so easy. The step by step explanation is awesome. Thanks.

I’ve been learning to write the script manually, but I don’t have time to focus. So, I tried to install the scripts that are already available on the hosting package. And it works after I take a look at this article. I am using fantastico de luxe.

Even webmasters with experience are installing worpress through such kind of wizards. Most web hosting providers are advertising the easiness of installation of open source scripts, but the true is that very few have a step by step guide. Installing our favorite blogging platform should be easy, and web hosting companies should make the whole procedure simpler for everyone.

SimpleScripts is only available to BlueHost, HostMonster and FastDomain hosting account which come under the same hosting group run by Matt Heaton. They are developed in house but is planning to sell the service to other web host as well. But unfortunately, after being release so long, I haven’t see a single web host using their service! Many people are curious why BlueHost would create SimpleScripts while Fantastico is available. The reasons because Fantastico is very late in updating their scripts making a lot of sites insecure because of slow upgrades! My users complaint about it and that’s how SimpleScripts is born.

Nicely done !! That is the best Simple Scripts tutorial I’ve ever seen. Your mention of FTP at the end is the log on the road for most new to the process. Loading up plugins without FTP knowledge will take a huge tutorial. But my experience with Fantistico deluxe has been mixed and I hope Simple Scripts is better. For one thing, the WP versions have been changing a lot. How many times in the last year… like 6 times? The 2 hosting providers I used Fantistico on never had the latest version. So you could do a basic WP install, then you have to do a WP upgrade.

Hey Jeff, nice tutorial there. I usually prefer manual installation; but again simple scripts make things so much easy and saves your time.
