WordPress Blogging With An iPhone
The WordPress team has developed an iPhone app for WordPress that lets you write posts, upload photos, edit pages, and manage comments on your blog from your iPhone or iPod Touch.
With support for both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress 2.7 or higher, WordPress bloggers can access and manage their blogs on the go. Since I don’t have an iPhone I can’t really review this app but have tried several other smart phone plugins to manage WordPress and found them somewhat difficult to use. But that has been over a year now and I should probabaly give them another look. Regardless, if you must blog on the go then you might want to give it a shot. Here are some of the features or fixes of the latest release of WordPress for iPhone 2:
- A new, more efficient user interface that makes it faster to switch between comments, posts, and pages.
- Various user interface refinements and bug fixes
- New Comments interface, with Gravatars and the author URL shown in the comment list
- Passwords are now stored in the keychain
- Posts are now automatically saved and restored if network connection is lost during publishing
- Added persistence, so the app re-opens in the blog you last used
- Added an interface for manually entering the XMLRPC endpoint for non-standard setups
- Fixed rotation-related visual glitches
- Fixed errors where malformed XML prevented access to XMLRPC endpoint
- Fixed edge case where local drafts were sometimes not saved
- Fixed the order of photos so that they’re displayed in the order they’re uploaded

Agreed! As much as I love my iPhone, I keep emails, etc. really short. Now a voice recognition app… that would work

Whew, another one without an iphone, so I’m not the last person on the face of the planet not to have one!
Seriously, maybe it’s because I’m in my late thirties? the generations gap setting in? I just can’t get the hang of texting. I only do it if I have to and I just can’t imagine blogging via my phone. Give me a keyboard please!

I have blogged via my iphone, it is not as fun if you have to write a lengthy post, however, for a quick update it is very valuable.

Tried it just now. It’s not so bad. I mean, yeah its time consuming..but the fact that you can blog on your IPhone when you are away from the comp is amazing.

Interesting post. *Raises hand* Another non-iphone user. Would consider it though if it AT&T wasn’t the only service provider.

A quick note about installation: WordPress for iPhone 2 is a new app, and the previous version won’t automatically update to 2.0. Installing it won’t overwrite any previous version you have installed. When you launch the new app, you’ll immediately see “Version 2.0″ at the bottom of the screen. When you’re no longer using it, you can safely remove the previous version from your device.

It’s applications like this one that makes the iPhone a big hit among bloggers. That, despite the ridiculous price tag for this phone. For sure a lot of website owners will flock to Apple stores again…

On WordPress.com blogs, all communication (done over XML-RPC) is by default going to use an encrypted connection via SSL. For self-hosted WordPress, if you have SSL enabled, WordPress 2.6.1 or later supports pointing the RSD information at the “https” version of xmlrpc.php which creates an encrypted communication link with the App.

I can’t stand typing on the iPhone. I can’t imagine myself blogging on the iPhone when I have to type so many words out. I would probably break the phone!

I’ve tried this and it is good for short posts, or to quickly add a picture, but longer ones are a pain typing out on the iPhone.

The app looks really nice, but how often would you write a post on your iphone, it’s definitely doable. I mean I’ve written blog comments before via the iphone.
My biggest fear when doing that is that I will hit submit and something will go wrong and i lose the text, that’s always the worst.

If you ask a very specific question about your particular WordPress theme, it will probably be deleted. I can fix your WordPress site but for a price.
